Commuter's Dream

Located right off Garden State Parkway exit 120 with a train station and downtown Matawan is alive early in the morning with all the commuters going into the city. As one of the oldest communities in the region, Matawan is home to a number of historic sites featuring various styles of architecture. Matawan is defined by a downtown Main Street lined with beautiful Victorian and Historic Century homes, cozy restaurants and shops and service businesses. Two scenic lakes and minor waterways are beautiful settings to enjoy. The history of the shark attack in 1916. It is to be believed the same shark killed swimmers in Beach Haven and Spring Lake and somehow made it up inland through Matawan Creek. The shark killed two people. The story has been told in movies, books and on the Discovery Channel's Shark Week. Parks are filled with people enjoying this quaint town. The community comes out to enjoy the annual Fourth of July picnic and fireworks off the lake. Sports are very big in Matawan with our Huskies Sport Teams, little league baseball, softball, and soccer and peewee football teams. So between the historic sites and celebrating Matawan Day there is plenty to explore!
