The Hub of a County
 Three highways and two busy county roads pass through Freehold Township, so there are people from all corners who come and go at all times in the municipality that serves as the wheel of western Monmouth County. The small-town charm is balanced by epicenters of commerce and professional services. Freehold Raceway Mall and a number of "big box" stores on service drives to the mall have about 2 million square feet of retail space. Close by is Centra State Medical Center, which is the largest employer in town, with a staff of 1,533.
Turkey Swamp Park on Georgia Road, at 1,496 acres, is the largest county park. The township-owned Tighe Park in the western section of the township consists of 226 acres; another large township recreation area, to be called Opatut Park, is in the works, and there are a dozen smaller "neighborhood" parks.
Freehold Borough is landlocked by Freehold Township and in fact serves as a downtown area for the people of both Freeholds. The towns also share Freehold Raceway, the harness racing track that has its grandstand, two parking areas and the finish line of the racing surface in the borough, and the backstretch, paddock and a third parking area in
the township.
